The Worship Of The Golden Calf

The Making And Worship Of The Godden Calf

When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Up, make us gods, who shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” And Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off the rings of gold which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, and made a molten calf; and they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play, in various festivities.

The Israelites were busy worshipping the idol and celebrating.

I went to meet God and the Israelites started doing what they like. The humanity you are seeing, a small thing they fall away - they abandoned what they have being thought and start doing any other thing that pleases themselves. In the twinkling of an eye, in a very short time, they have fallen away. They did not remember all the glorious works, signs and wonders, God was performing for them. In the very short time that they did not see me, they went off the line, and stated idolatry.

Therefore, Aaron told them to hurry up and bring their gold and ornaments – ear rings, bangles, necklaces – immediately. And the people hurried to gather and submit all their jewelries.

And God remembered all the sufferings which He had endured in bringing the Israelites out of Egypt. It was not above God to wipe out the Israelites. But God remembered all that He had suffered. God was very merciful. He looked out and saw what was happening. Myself was there with God but I did not see the idolatry of the Israelites. And God told me to go down the mountain, because things were getting bad in very great and terrible ways. God abhors various things, but what grieves Him most is worshipping another god.
